Front-man of the Tragically Hip, and legendary Canadian, Gord Downie passed away last night (Oct. 17) surrounded by his family. The Tragically Hip’s website announced Downie’s passing with a post from his family earlier today (Oct. 18).
In the statement Downie’s family said that “Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived.”
It was announced in May of 2016 that Downie had an incurable form of brain cancer. Since the announcement the Tragically Hip embarked on a final tour, Gord Downie released a solo album The Secret Path, and announced another solo release Introduce Yerself, to be released on October 27. Downie was 53.
